William Rush Thompson was born and raised in the Copper Country. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps where he served at home and abroad before being honorably discharged. Upon leaving the Marines he returned to his former home and enrolled at Finlandia University obtaining a degree in Physical Therapy before moving to Maui, Hawaii before returning home to start his family at which point he enrolled at Finlandia University once again, this time obtaining his Bachelor of Fine Art degree with a concentration in Ceramic design.
